Graphic arts with
wood and burning

Pyrography, or woodburning is nearly extinct in the world of art, yet from my earliest encounters I found it captivating. In the warm organic beauty of wood I find a deep connection with nature, an intriguing aesthetic that now adds mystery and meaning to my art.

Over the years I've explored these forms, in the subtle blends of wood and the subjects I portray I feel I've discovered something remarkable. The rich flesh tones and deep earthy hues of burning combine handsomely with my faces and wildlife renderings. The grains of oak, birch, maple, and fir infused with transparent color offer rich tonal underlays and evocative parallels to the ethereal textures of the atmosphere, gentle ripples of skies and water, and the undulating stratifications of landscape and terrain. In my experiments in these woods I've also found intriguing precursors, steppingstones to new extrapolations in virtual forms free from their elemental and material limits. These have led me to unique derivatives I've called pyrographics.
